Decision Guide

Backed by thorough research and straightforward information

Research

Either from a Senior’s Perspective or an Adult Child’s Perspective, our decision guide will help answer a few questions.

from a Senior’s Perspective . . .

What are the major reasons for considering a move to Wesley Commons?

There are many reasons.  Wesley Commons is an active senior lifestyle community nestled in more than 150 beautiful acres in the welcoming city of Greenwood, South Carolina.  As a resident, you will enjoy a wonderful home in great neighborhoods complemented by exceptional services and dozens of preferred amenities.

There are other important reasons, too.  Our residents are continually impressed with our dedication to our Mission – to enrich lives by providing innovative living opportunities in accord with Christian principles.  At Wesley Commons, we always remain diligent in being an affordable, high quality provider of senior living services.

And then there’s the biggest reason – our employees and professional staff who are by far our most important asset.  We are focused on delivering a much more individually focused service and support in a residential community setting.

from an Adult Child’s Perspective . . .

They say they’re not “ready”, but I see signs that they are.

Often, you’re in the best position to know when your parents are ready to make the move to a senior living community. You see the signs. Maybe Mom is feeling lonely, or Dad has become more forgetful. Meals are more of a problem. Home maintenance is becoming too much of a burden. Worry about safety increases.

There are many signs, and they usually become more pronounced over time. Eventually, single, isolated problems are multiplied, making living conditions more complex and worrisome.

What’s the best solution?

Often, it’s a direct, heart-to-heart talk with a parent to point out your concerns and discuss possible solutions openly. As with everything else you do, this is a conversation grounded in love and sensitivity and a genuine concern for your parent’s well-being. Ignoring the problems doesn’t help. In fact, over time it only makes things worse.

You should know that this is a common scenario, one that every child with an aging parent faces at one time or another. You’re not alone, and the caring staff at Wesley Commons will be happy to help you work through the considerations that inevitably come with the signs of aging.

Either from a Senior’s Perspective or an Adult Child’s Perspective, our decision guide will help answer a few questions.

from a Senior’s Perspective . . .

How can I help my family understand the reasons for my move?

It goes without saying – moving from your present home to a residential retirement community is a big decision. In many ways, it’s a family decision that affects not only you – but your loved ones, too.

That’s why it’s important that your family members are fully on board and support you in the decision you make.

Talk it over with your family. Discuss candidly the primary reasons why you are considering a move (e.g. health concerns, household chores and home maintenance, desire for friends and companionship).

Your transition will be made easier by ensuring your family’s questions are answered, and they are well-informed. Offer them a tour of Wesley Commons. Let them meet our staff members and residents and hear first-hand how supportive everyone is and how satisfied current residents are.

These testimonies will go a long way toward easing your loved ones’ concerns and convincing them you are making the right move.

Above all, remember that your children and other family members love and care about you. Your happiness and well-being are their utmost concerns. When they see you are confident about your future, they will be confident – and supportive, too.

from an Adult Child’s Perspective . . .

Should I be concerned about safety and security?

No. Wesley Commons provides a 24-hour security staff and emergency call and response systems. Our residences also include fire and smoke detectors and a central security system to ensure the well-being of every resident.
